Bartram Springs ElementaryBuddy Bench The NEHS chapter at Bartram Springs Elementary in Jacksonville, Florida made friendship a priority when deciding to purchase a “Buddy Bench” for our playground. When a member noticed that some students were playing alone and looking sad on the playground, she suggested the chapter raise money to purchase a “Buddy Bench” to encourage kindness, awareness, and friendship. Members worked for two months to create 100 friendship bookmarks to sell along with friendship bracelets. The project was a success—the new “Buddy Bench” is a welcomed addition to the playground and a reminder to always be a friend! |

Oldsmar ElementaryHurricane Maria Supply Drive Oldsmar’s NEHS chapter was lucky to escape the harms of Hurricane Irma and Maria, but saw the destruction that it had left on the communities in the direct path of these storms. The chapter’s incoming group of fifth grade students decided that they would like to help the victims in Puerto Rico, who they felt needed the most help. They created a toiletry drive at school and worked with district personnel to get the supplies they collected flown to Puerto Rico to the people suffering. In a school of 575 students, 2,869 items were successfully collected. |
