Gardening Projects Enrich Communities, Teach Sustainability

Earth Day is April 22! Celebrate with a garden project, such as planting flower beds, growing herbs and vegetables, or planting trees. Gardening brings people and communities together with beautification projects; teaches the importance of sustainability, nutrition, and recycling; and can enhance academic learning. Celebrate Student Leaders With National Student Leadership Week

National Student Leadership Week (NSLW), sponsored by the national office of the National Honor Societies and National Student Council, celebrates the important contributions student leaders make to the climate and culture of their schools and communities. NSLW 2019’s theme of “Student Leaders: Taking Charge” ties closely with NASSP’s Global Citizenship Initiative, #EngageInChange, empowering students to speak up, share their opinions, and make a positive difference in their schools, communities, and beyond. Mark your calendar for April 21–27, and help your chapter start planning now for how they’ll enact positive change. Spotlight on Inducting Members

Many NEHS chapters celebrate their induction in the spring. Find out how to throw the best induction ceremony for your new chapter members in the NEHS Adviser Resource Center, where you can access sample invitations, a ceremony script, sample pledges, and advice on everything from induction themes to music options. Where’s Watson?

Watson recently visited Warren Hope Dawson Elementary School for their inaugural NEHS Induction Ceremony. Their induction ceremony took place on January 28, 2019, and 43 fourth and fifth graders were welcomed into the chapter. Watson was the main star of the event as he sat on the table and took pictures with many families. Watson also participated in selling candy grams around school for their first ever fundraiser! Many thanks to NEHS adviser Lauren Hayes for offering Watson a chance to escape the freezing temperatures and visit Florida to represent NEHS at your ceremony.
