Online Newsletters

A Resource for NEHS Advisers

Online newsletters provide us with ongoing communications and resources from groups and individuals with whom we have some connection. Considering the Honor Society focus on scholarship, leadership, service, character, responsibility, and citizenship, there is a wide range of sources for e-news for advisers. Below is a partial list of some resources that we believe will interest you as you build your resources for the new year. Look for "Free Newsletters" on the homepages referenced below.

Note: Links and availability of newsletters was confirmed as of 7.10.09. We regret if the free newsletter services are no longer available. Chapters are under no obligation to take advantage of the services recommended below.

The following sites all maintain a sign-up for an online newsletter to which you can subscribe:
  1. PEN: PEN identifies its mission: To build public demand and mobilize resources for quality public education for all children through a national constituency of local education funds and individuals. Sign up for the PEN Weekly NewsBlast.
  2. CharacterCounts: CC! lists itself as "the biggest character education program in the nation." Click "Newsletters" from the homepage to read about the variety of online news shared by the staff at CC!
  3. Simple Truths: "Our goal, like our name, is simple: to help you reinforce what's most important in your life or in your company." Check the free movies listings while you're there.
  4. Walk the Talk.com: "Our goal at WalkTheTalk.com is both simple and straightforward: to provide you and your organization with high-impact resources for your personal and professional success."
  5. John Maxwell, Leadership: Newsletter: The Leadership Communiqué.
  6. Healthier Generation: The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a partnership between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. We have come together to create a new generation of healthy Americans by addressing one of the nation's leading public health threats—childhood obesity.
  7. Every Monday Matters: The vision for Every Monday Matters is to create a collective action of ordinary people—a national movement— making a difference that benefits our society.
  8. CIRCLE: The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement from Tufts University's Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service.
  9. Humor Project: The HUMOR Project, Inc. is the first organization in the world to focus full-time on the positive power of humor. Our mission is to make a difference by being a unique, pioneering, and cutting-edge organization that touches the lives of individuals, organizations, and nations. We seek to help people get more smileage out of their lives and jobs by applying the practical, positive power of humor and creativity.
  10. Principal's Update (for aspiring principals): Official weekly electronic newsletter from NASSP, the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
  11. Youth Service America: Newsletter: The National Service Briefing. A leading resource for information and resources on service and service-learning.
  12. Charity Navigator: CN identifies itself as "America's premier independent charity evaluator." In addition to this site, one can find similar resources on www.give.org (provided by the Better Business Bureau) and www.guidestar.org (self-described as connecting people with nonprofit organizations).
  13. Teaching Tolerance: A project of the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Teaching Tolerance e-newsletter is delivered periodically to educators interested in anti-bias issues and related educational materials.
